About SciTech

Kim Magloire is the Founder and President of SciTech. A graduate of Princeton University and Columbia University, Kim has a passion for nurturing young minds. After working as a biologist and epidemiologist at Rockefeller University and Columbia University, Kim realized her true passion was to teach students how to excel academically, especially in math and science. For twelve years, she worked for the Princeton Review, tutoring the best and the brightest students from elite private schools in New York City and abroad and training instructors for the MCAT course at their franchises around the country. By the time she left, Kim was considered a "master instructor" for all the standardized tests: the SAT, PSAT, ACT, MCAT, GMAT, GRE, LSAT, ISEE, SSAT, SSHAT and SAT II Subject tests and had authored five Princeton Review books.

After witnessing the academic achievement gap in public schools, Kim realized the need to provide the same quality educational services to public school students, especially those disadvantaged. In 1996, Kim founded SciTech, which soon became an acknowledged leader in providing innovative programs to public school students and schools in New York City and around the country, in addition to her work with private school students.

What sets SciTech apart from other educational companies is that curriculums are customized, engaging, effective, and comprehensive. SciTech's students do not merely memorize facts solely to pass tests, but are expected to understand the subject matter. This method has proven to be successful as students who complete our Regents program pass their examinations at a higher rate (81%) and with a higher score than their peers.

Additionally, SciTech's students learn beyond the walls of the classroom. Yes, SciTech does it all: from conducting science experiments and programs, as part of the Touring Programs of the New York Public Library, to partnering with universities and industries to provide additional services to schools and students. In fact, Kim has served as an adjunct professor teaching Advanced Science Research and Epidemiology in high schools and as coordinator for Polytechnic's Summer Research Program, which mentors high school students conducting science research on campus. Many of these students became Regional finalists and semifinalists in national science competitions. SciTech also hosts workshops at Polytechnic University to expose students to science and technology-based careers. SciTech has worked with major corporations such as Siemens to run their Siemens Science Day, a program to inspire middle-school students to learn science and engineering and has served on their Outreach Alliance board.

Kim is a frequent expert speaker at schools and professional organizations. Her talks have included, "the education crisis", "the education achievement gap", "how to teach and mentor minority students", "the increasing high school dropout rate", "preparing for college", "getting financial aid for college", "the college admission process", "finding college scholarships", "the SAT versus the ACT", "Advanced Placement curriculum", "national science competitions", and "innovative science programs for middle and high school students".

Kim has received numerous awards for her work, including national "Community Leader of the Year" from The Quaker Oats Company and the "Education Award" from the Brooklyn Chapter of the Professional Women's Club. She has also been featured in numerous magazines and newspapers, such as Newsday and in the article, "Women Shaping History Today," in Education Update.
